Chad Staley was a beloved son, brother, and friend whose passion for hockey and kindness toward others touched everyone who knew him. From 2012 to 2015, he proudly wore the Prince George Spruce Kings jersey, serving as captain and becoming a fan favourite for his leadership and work ethic both on and off the ice. He went on to play NCAA hockey at the University of Alaska–Fairbanks, where he excelled academically and athletically, before beginning his professional career in Germany and Italy.
In March 2020, at just 25 years old, Chad’s life was tragically cut short by a single, devastating accident that took away a young man full of promise. His journey—from junior hockey in Prince George, to the University of Alaska–Fairbanks, and then to a professional career in Europe—was marked not only by his skill and determination, but also by who he was as a person: humble, kind, compassionate, and a quiet leader who always gave back to others.
Chad’s passing shook many lives, but it also inspired the creation of the Chad Staley Memorial Athletic Foundation, founded by the Ascentech Group, along with his family and close friends. The foundation exists to honour his life and carry forward the qualities that defined him: compassion, determination, and an unwavering commitment to community.
Our mission is to guide and support athletes in overcoming challenges, achieving goals, and developing into well-rounded individuals—focusing on athletics, academics, health, and well-being. Through sports development, mentorship, coaching, mental health support, injury awareness and education, and access to essential resources, we strive to carry forward Chad’s legacy and his desire to help the next generation grow both as athletes and as people.
