Building Confidence, Focus, and Resilience

Athletic development involves more than physical training. Athletes must also learn how to manage pressure, respond to setbacks, stay focused, build confidence, and prepare mentally for competition. Mental performance support gives athletes practical skills they can use throughout training, competition, recovery, and everyday life.

Expanding Access to a Certified Mental Performance Consultant

The Chad Staley Memorial Foundation and Engage Sport North are working together to fund greater access to a Certified Mental Performance Consultant, or CMPC. This initiative is intended to provide Northern British Columbia athletes with qualified mental performance support as part of their overall development.

A CMPC is a trained professional who specializes in the mental side of sport and performance. They help athletes develop practical skills related to confidence, concentration, goal setting, motivation, competition preparation, communication, resilience, and performing under pressure.

The exact structure of the program is still being developed. Future support may include athlete workshops, team sessions, one-on-one guidance, and educational resources for coaches and families.
